The Woodlands Township Board holds meeting

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 23, 2017) – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a regular meeting on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.

At the start of the meeting, the President/General Manager provided a report, acknowledging two awards for the Township for financial reporting and a commendation from the Entergy Solutions program for reduction of the Township’s carbon footprint. The Township received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the year ended December 31, 2015, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The Woodlands Township has received this recognition for each fiscal year since the Township’s inception in 2010. In addition, the Township recently received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year 2017 Budget document. The Township has received this award for each fiscal year since it began participating in the program in 2015. These two awards reflect the commitment of the Township Board and staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental accounting, financial reporting and budgeting.   

The Board of Directors took the following actions on the Consent Agenda:

  • Received Administrative Reports from Township departments;
  • Awarded a contract for legal services (C-2017-0162);
  • Approved a facility access control system.

The Board of Directors then moved on to take the following actions on the Regular Agenda:

  • Conducted a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to Township Orders 019-09 and 020-09 regarding Incidental Use of the Park and Ride facilities and related fees, and approved the amendments;
  • Approved a plan to hold two events on September 11, 2017, and to recognize September 11 as First Responders Day in perpetuity;
  • Accepted a proposal to build out existing office space in Town Hall to accommodate the relocaton of Convention and Visitors Bureau operations;  
  • Received an emergency preparedness briefing from Fire Chief Alan B. Benson. The Township encourages all residents to create emergency preparedness plans for their families, and to sign up for emergency alerts through the Township website at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/notifyme and through the Montgomery County Smart911 program at www.mc911.org.
  • Received and accepted a report on the Cultural Arts Feasibility Study from Gensler representative Jonathan Shelledy and approved implementation of Phase II of the study to include evaluation of facility and site needs, as well as operational and financial analysis for two recommended options: an Arts Center option and a Natural Science Museum option.
  • Adopted Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a Township paid holiday.
