THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 23, 2017) – The Woodlands Township’s Board of Directors and Staff are encouraging residents and businesses of The Woodlands to be prepared for the Hurricane Season.
The Woodlands Township Fire Chief Alan B. Benson delivered an emergency preparedness presentation to The Woodlands Township Board of Directors during the Board’s regular June 22, 2017, Board meeting. During the meeting, he encouraged the community to stay informed via The Woodlands Township’s “Stay Informed” and “Emergency Resources” links, located on the homepage at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
Chief Benson spoke on numerous points about Hurricane Season, summing up his comments, “Hurricanes are not just a coastal problem. Impacts can be felt hundreds of miles inland. For those of us who experienced Hurricane Ike and other storms, we do not want to suffer from hurricane amnesia in the form of complacency, denial and inexperience. Weather officials are predicting an above average Hurricane Season with 16 named storms. Our residents and businesses need to be prepared.”
Chief Benson said there are many alert tools at The Woodlands Township’s website and through the Township’s social media marketing as well. You can sign up for emergency information at this website: http://www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/stayinformed.
“We will be sending out key and necessary information via all of these channels before, during and after a storm,” said Chief Benson. “We encourage all residents to stay prepared and informed during Hurricane Season, think ahead of necessary items and travel, and discuss with friends and family.”
Chief Benson spoke of a variety of tips and advice in preparation for a storm as well as a service called SMART 911 which is located at www.smart911.com.
This service is free, private and secure, and allows citizens to create a Safety Profile of valuable information for 9-1-1 call takers only in the event of an emergency. Customized information delivered directly to first responders includes medical information; special conditions; names, ages and pictures of family members; home and work addresses; phone numbers associated with family members; information about pets; access information (gate codes, garage codes); description of vehicles; and emergency contacts.
