[ARCHIVED] WEATHER UPDATE – Township monitoring tropical disturbance

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 15, 2015) – The Woodlands Township is currently monitoring the tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.

At 1 p.m. today the U.S. National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas reported that there is a tropical disturbance with an 80 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm before landfall. It is expected that the disturbance will make landfall late tonight, June 15, 2015, or early Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

The Woodlands Township encourages residents to prepare for expected impacts from the storm including heavy rainfall and localized flooding, gusty winds and isolated tornadoes. Residents are also advised to follow several precautions to keep their families safe:

  • Stay connected with The Woodlands Township for the most current updates via its website (www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov) or its emergency notification system (www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/notifyme).

  • Do not drive into high water; water may be deeper than it appears and can hide many hazards.

  • Stay home during the heavy rainfall unless it is imperative that you must travel. If you must drive at night, remember to use extreme caution in avoiding high water.

  • Remove any objects outside your home that could float away and obstruct storm drains; this includes trash and recycling containers.
