THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 18, 2015) – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors voted Thursday, June 18, 2015, authorizing the President / General Manager to submit a proposed Purchase and Sale Agreement to GE BETZ, Inc. for an 11.6 acre tract of land located at 9669 Grogan’s Mill Road in The Woodlands Township.
According to a statement from The Woodlands Township’s Board of Directors, the acquisition of this property will enable The Woodlands Township to plan for future governmental needs. In preparation for the eventual need to incorporate as a municipality, The Woodlands Township has been searching for a suitable site within the Township for the development of a centralized complex that could accommodate a city hall, a police station, municipal court, a local governmental services center and/or other important public facilities such as a cultural arts center, visitor center or other local government public use facilities.
It is the belief of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors that the GE Water and Process Technologies parcel is ideally sized and to satisfy future civic functions of The Woodlands. Currently, The Woodlands has a population of approximately 110,000 people and operates as a special purpose district. The Woodlands, located in the extra territorial jurisdictions (ETJs) of Houston and Conroe, operates under special Regional Participation Agreements with the two mentioned cities allowing the Township to determine its future form of governance.
Per the terms of the proposed Purchase and Sale agreement that will be submitted to GE BETZ for their approval, The Township will be evaluating all aspects of the site over approximately 45 days as it completes the due diligence phase. The purchase price is approximately $15.2 million and closing on the purchase is subject to the final approval of GE BETZ, Inc and the successful completion of the due diligence review which is expected to occur within the next 45 to 60 days. The funding for the acquisition would be from The Woodlands Township reserve funds.
