THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (September 21, 2016) – The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department hosts Sarah Flournoy, program manager with the Houston Audubon Society, to present Creating Bird-Friendly Communities. Sarah Flournoy shares inspiration and methods to re-envision landscapes with birds in mind during this Walk in the Woods nature lecture on Thursday, October 13, 2016, 7:30 p.m., at McCullough Junior High School, 3800 S. Panther Creek Drive.

No other state matches Texas for the diversity of avian species — over 600 — sighted within its borders. In addition to resident birds, over 2.5 million birds migrate through the greater Gulf Coast area each spring according to the Houston Audubon Society. Whether through using native plants or adding nest boxes, even small plots in backyards, parks and public spaces can add critical habitat for resident and migrating songbirds. Echoing the Houston Audubon Society’s message, Ms. Flournoy says, “Where birds thrive, people prosper.”

Appealing to nature enthusiasts of all ages, Walk in the Woods Nature Lecture Series is a free program of The Woodlands Township sponsored by The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N., Waste Management and Nature’s Way Resources.
