THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (September 30, 2016) – The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department encourages Township residents to conserve water and pledge to turn off automated sprinkler systems or not water grass from October 15, 2016, through April 15, 2017. It is part of the 2016 – 2017 Water-Wise Village Challenge. Township residents may make the pledge at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/waterconservation or in person at The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department office, located at 8203 Millennium Forest Drive.

When submitted by the December 31, 2016, deadline, each household’s pledge earns a point for their village association. Pledges made before November 15, 2016, earn double points. The three water-wise village associations that receive the most points earn a cash award for their scholarship funds, $750, $500 and $250, respectively.

Township residents who make the pledge during the 3R Bazaar at The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department office, November 12, 2016, receive a gift for signing the pledge at the event.

Township residents who pledge by the December 31, 2016, deadline may obtain and display a free yard sign proclaiming, “This yard is helping to conserve our water supply.” Refer two neighbors who pledge to conserve water and pick up a thank-you gift.

The Water-Wise Village Challenge helps raise awareness about water conservation and its benefits. Turfgrass, particularly St. Augustine, naturally goes dormant during winter and benefits from not being watered. Allowing the grass to brown during winter gives the root system a rest from making green leaves, lets the roots dig deeper and get stronger, and promotes optimal new green growth during spring. The Water-Wise Village Challenge is an attempt to ensure a reliable supply of quality drinking water for future use in The Woodlands.
