Neighborhood Watch Team wins award

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (December 8, 2016) – The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch recently placed #1 in the state of Texas and #2 in the nation for its 2016 National Night Out (NNO) programming. In the national competition, the Township was entered in Category 2, Population 100,000 to 300,000. Other Texas cities that competed in Category 2 include: Midland (#9), Richardson (#10), McKinney (#16), Plano (#18), Waco (#20), League City (#22) and Grand Prairie (#26). Orlando, Florida placed #1.

The Township’s high rankings for both entries can be attributed to an outstanding team effort among the Township staff, public safety partners and residents. Township Program Coordinator Kristin Pternitis oversees the NNO program. Township Program Coordinator Sue Martin produces the NNO Community Safety Expo. The entire township Neighborhood Watch team works with Neighborhood Watch volunteers to host NNO parties throughout The Woodlands.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office - District 6, Harris County Constable’s Office - Precinct 4 and The Woodlands Fire Department are the public safety partners that provide an essential part of all the Neighborhood Watch programming. “The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out are a shining example of the police-community partnerships fostered in The Woodlands,” said Marian Leck, Township Director of Law Enforcement.

The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch provides award-winning crime prevention programming to all neighborhoods in The Woodlands. “For over twenty-five years, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch has celebrated National Night Out and continues to strengthen crime prevention initiatives throughout the community,” said John Powers, Township Assistant General Manager, Community Services.
