[ARCHIVED] Media Advisory: Prescribed burning to take place at W. Goodrich Jones State Forest

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (January 10, 2018) – Texas A&M Forest Service will be conducting prescribed burning operations at W. Goodrich Jones State Forest starting possibly Thursday, January 11, 2018, through the end of the month between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as weather conditions permit.

Prescribed fire is considered a standard forest management tool for endangered species habitat restoration, undergrowth vegetation reduction and providing for community safety, especially from catastrophic wildfires.

The prescribed burns will be small in size, approximately 10-30 acre areas within the highlighted areas on the attached map.

The Texas A&M Forest Service is notifying surrounding city and fire officials, as well as area residents and groups who frequent the forest, by email and posting notification signs. Agency fire officials and equipment will be on-site at the forest.
