[ARCHIVED] Two mosquito samples test positive for West Nile virus

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 8, 2018) –The Precinct 3 Commissioner’s Office, in partnership with The Woodlands Township, continues mosquito abatement measures to protect the public from any mosquito-borne illness.

The Montgomery County Mosquito Abatement team detected its first West Nile virus positive mosquito of the season in a sample tested in-house Tuesday. The township also had a sample come back positive from the Texas Department of State Health Services Thursday.

Spraying started Wednesday in the area where the first positive sample was obtained. Spraying will begin tonight in the area where the second positive sample was obtained. Treatment includes spraying all streets and county rights of way within the affected areas twice in one week.

Residents can check the treatment activity map (http://www.precinct3.org/mosquito-abatement/) to learn when spraying will occur in their neighborhoods.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activity during the scheduled treatment hours. Personal protective measures, such as insect repellent, wearing long, light loose clothing, eliminating standing water, also should be taken.

Please direct questions via email to justin.fausek@mctx.org or call the mosquito phone line at 281-364-4203.

We urge residents to take precautions while outdoors and think WET.
