Chairman Bunch Discusses Hospital Capacity in Good Shape
While positive cases have seen dramatic upswings, Township Chairman Gordy Bunch discusses sufficient hospital capacity in The Woodlands area at this time. The video can be watched here. The Woodlands and Harris County have sufficient capacities, according to the SouthEast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC), the organization that monitors hospital capacity on a daily basis for a 25-county area including Harris and Montgomery.

County News

Montgomery County COVID-19 Case Count Sees an Increase of 138 Positive Cases
Montgomery County Public Health District, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, can confirm three additional deaths related to COVID-19. Two men in their 80s, both from Montgomery, and a woman in her 80s, from Willis, have died. All had co-morbidities in addition to testing positive for COVID-19.

  • TOTAL cases of COVID-19 increased by 138 to 5,990 since yesterday’s report.
  • ACTIVE cases of COVID-19 decreased by 7 to 2,543 since yesterday’s report.
  • 68 residents are known to be in the hospital, as a result of contact investigations. Contact investigations have not been initiated on all reported cases.
  • 3,285 people have clinically recovered.

Harris County COVID-19 Case Count
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) publishes their daily case count, combined with the City of Houston’s daily case count, here. Cases by zip code in Harris County can be found by clicking on areas of the map.

The Village of Creekside Park is located in two zip codes: 77375 and 77389, and these also include Magnolia, Augusta Pines/Auburn Lakes/West Rayford Road in northwest Harris County. Today, Harris County is reporting zip code 77375 has 459 confirmed positive cases with 198 active cases, and 77389 has 251 confirmed positive cases with 70 active cases.

Governor Extends Early Voting Period for November 3, 2020 Election
Governor Greg Abbott issued a Proclamation extending the early voting period for the November 3, 2020, Election by nearly a week. Under this proclamation, early voting by personal appearance will begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and continue through Friday, October 30, 2020. Read the full press release for more information.

Testing Information

Testing in Montgomery County
A reminder, online registration is now available for COVID-19 testing through the MCPHD/MCHD voucher program. Click on “Need to be tested?” on mchd-tx.org or mcphd-tx.org and follow the instructions. Please note, the COVID-19 Call Center at 936-523-3916, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for more information.

Testing in Harris County
Get tested, it’s free! To sign up for testing, visit hcphtx.org or ReadyHarris.org or you can call 832-927-7575. View flyer for more information. Once tested, results from HCPH testing sites can take up to 5 days to process. As you wait for your results, stay home and self-isolate, especially if you are sick, practice social distancing (6 ft/2 m) and wear a face-covering. Additional Testing Sites
Governor Greg Abbott announced on Sunday, July 12, 2020, that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended federal support of Community Based Testing Sites in Dallas and Houston through July 31, 2020. Wendtwoods Pool Re-Opens, Forestgate Pool Closed
The Woodlands Township re-opened Wendtwoods Pool to the public on Monday, July 27, 2020, from 2 to 8 p.m. The pool was temporarily closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Due to the number of lifeguards in quarantine and as outlined in the COVID-19 Pool Closure Prioritization Plan, Forestgate Pool is closed effective July 27, 2020. Riva Row Boat House Now Open 
The Woodlands Township has re-opened Riva Row Boat House. A twilight swan boat ride on The Woodlands Waterway is a perfect way to spend a lovely summer’s evening in The Woodlands. Normal operating hours are in effect, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with last boats going out at 7 p.m., closed on Wednesdays only. Read the full release for more information.

School News

Local School Districts Reopening Plans

  • Conroe ISD will begin the school year on August 12, 2020, with ALL students in remote/online instruction only. Traditional in-person instruction is scheduled to begin no earlier than September 8, 2020. Read the full message from Dr. Null | Roadmap to Reopening
  • Magnolia ISD will start on August 12, 2020 with ALL students receiving instruction online through Labor Day. Planning for the 2020-2021 School Year
  • Tomball ISD will start the school year on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 with ALL students in remote/virtual instruction onlyReturn to Excellence – Reopening 2020
  • The John Cooper School
  • Lower School – Students will return to campus in small groups on August 13 and 14, 2020 for a safer first entry. Online learning option remains available and will begin on August 17.

Staying Healthy and Avoiding Mosquitoes
Mosquito surveillance has identified five mosquito samples positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Montgomery County. The next two weeks continue the typical peak of WNV activity in the mosquito population; please be vigilant in taking personal protective measures. Everyone is advised to wear repellent when outdoors and WNV is known to be circulating. This is especially true if someone:

  • Is outside in the early morning or evening hours when these mosquitoes are most active
  • Is over age 50
  • Has underlying health conditions

There has been one reported human case of WNV in north Texas, according to the state press release. Access the treatment map and schedule for South Montgomery County here and for Harris County here.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Free Virtual Arts Outreach Programs
The non-profit organization is continuing to provide cultural enrichment for both young audiences and the public at large. The Pavilion has recently launched several of its free educational outreach programs virtually for families to enjoy from the safety of their homes.

This season’s free Mini Maestros kids club is being offered through a digital experience via Google Classroom. The Pavilion is excited to launch the Virtual Scout Day Program this season as a way for Scouts BSA to achieve their Music Merit Badge. Read the full release for more information.

The FDA is working to address the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and keep you and your family informed on the latest developments. Visit the FDA’s website for answers to frequently asked questions from consumers about COVID-19 and pets.

Community Assistance Center
The Montgomery County Community Assistance Center (CAC) is seeking help through monetary and in-kind donations and through volunteers. The CAC front office is open for food and clothing assistance but with limited contact. View the CAC Services flyer | View the CAC How You Can Help flyer.

“Save a Life” Blood Drive
August 31 through September 7, 2020, KSBJ and NGEN radio stations have teamed up with Gulf Cost Regional Blood Center to help save lives in our community. You can be the blessing to the many hospital patients recovering from treatment and in need of blood. Those who donate at select locations will get a T-shirt as a small token of appreciation.
