1. Where are the Boat Houses located?

Riva Row Boat House is located at 2101 Riva Row, The Woodlands, TX 77380. It is located east of the Boardwalk Apartments and south across The Waterway Town Green Park. 

Lakes Edge is located at 1970 Hughes Landing Blvd. The Woodlands, TX 77380. It is located next to the Lakes Edge Apartment Complex in Hughes Landing, just south of Restaurant Row.

2. Where can you park for the Boat Houses?

Riva Row Boat House offers approximately 20 parallel parking spaces along Riva Row. Suggested parking for Lakes Edge Boat House is in the Whole Foods Parking Garage in Hughes Landing.

3. What are the hours of operation?

The Boat Houses operate on a seasonal schedule. Please call 281-210-2065 for current hours of operation. The last kayak is rented approximately one hour before sunset for a one-hour rental.

4. Are the Boat Houses open for the holidays?

The only holidays that Riva Row and Lakes Edge are closed are Thanksgiving Day (November 24) and Christmas Day (December 25)

5. How old must you be to rent a kayak/SUP?

A child age 9 years and younger must ride in a kayak with someone older than 16 years of age. A child age 10 to 15 years may be in their own boat/SUP, but with adult supervision. Children 16 to 17 years of age may kayak/SUP without supervision, but their parent/legal guardian must sign the rental waiver.

6. What is needed to rent a kayak/SUP?

Payment, a signed waiver and a valid I.D. as a deposit.

7. How can you pay for your kayak/SUP rental?

The Boat House accepts cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

8. Is it o.k. for a group of people to rent out kayaks/SUPs and swap people in and out of them?

No. If a single kayak is rented, the person who signed the waiver form is the only person that can use the kayak. If a double kayak is rented, then only the two people who signed the waiver form can use the kayak. Thus, there is no transferring of kayak or SUP rentals among people in a group. Please note: the Riva Row Boat House does offer group rates.

9. Do the Boat Houses offer group discounts or private parties?

10. Are food and drinks allowed in the kayaks and SUPs?

Yes, but glass containers, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are prohibited. The Boat House has light concessions available, including water and sport drinks.

11. Is fishing allowed in Lake Woodlands?

Yes. The boat houses do not rent or sell any fishing gear, so be sure to bring your own.

12. What is the inclement weather policy?

If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, then kayak operations will be closed until 30 minutes has passed with neither thunder nor lightning occurring. If you and your party are out on the lake, then go to Northshore, Southshore, The Cove, or Lakes Edge Boat House and find shelter until the weather passes.

14. How do you properly prepare yourself to go kayaking at a Boat House?

First, check the weather before visiting either Boat House and be sure to bring what you will need; jacket, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. The boat houses sell water and sports drinks only, so come prepared for your trip. Due to the nature of kayaking, you can expect to get wet and may want to bring a towel or extra change of clothes with you.  Riva Row Boat House offers small lockers, but patrons must bring their own locks.

16. Can I rent a kayak/SUP if I have no previous training?

Yes! Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are simple to operate and our friendly staff will go over proper paddling and steering techniques before you leave the dock.

17. What type of kayaks/SUPs do the Boat Houses offer?

Riva Row Boat House offers 30 tandem kayaks; some can hold up to 450 pounds and others can hold up to 950 pounds. Typically, this would be two adults and possibly a small child. There also are 26 single kayaks in various lengths and 10 SUPs, with a 350-pound weight capacity. Lakes Edge Boat House offers 6 tandems that will hold up to 500 lbs and 4 solo kayaks that will hold up to 325 lbs.

18. Where are we allowed to paddle?

You are allowed anywhere on Lake Woodlands. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are not allowed in the upper Waterway. Public docks are located at Northshore and Southshore Parks, The Cove and in Hughes Landing.

19. Do we need to bring a life jacket?

No, the Boat House has life jackets for all sizes, including for your dog! If you have your own personal life jacket, it can be used provided it is U.S. Coast Guard approved. All people renting kayaks/SUPs from the Boat House must wear a life jacket at all times.

20. Are the kayaks big enough to hold all of my personal belongings?

Most of the kayaks are large enough to hold small bags or coolers (no glass or alcohol, please). Riva Row Boat House offers small lockers for you to store items that you might not want to get wet. Please bring your own lock, as locks are not provided by the Riva Row Boat House. Riva Row Boat House is not responsible for lost or stolen items. The stand-up paddle boards have limited storage. We recommend leaving large bags, purses or valuables locked securely off-site. Lakes Edge Boat House does not offer personal storage or lockers but small items can be taken on the kayak.

21. Do you allow dogs to ride in the kayaks/SUPs?

Yes, dogs are allowed to ride in the kayaks.Dogs ride for no additional charge. A limited number of life jackets are available for dogs. Dogs are not allowed on the SUPs or swan boats. 

22. Can we put three people in a kayak?

Our tandem kayaks our designed to fit a maximum of two people, however, we can fit two adults and one small child, only if the child is less than 42 inches tall.

23. Can two people go out on one SUP?

No, only one person per stand-up paddle board is allowed.

24. Can we rent from one boat house and return our kayak/SUP to the other location?

No, the facility you rent from is the same facility you must return your equipment to (except during weather or medical emergencies). Remember, a photo ID or credit card is left as a deposit at the rental facility you visit and all equipment must be returned in order to pick up your ID.
